THE QUARRYMEN play Woolton Village Club, Allerton Rd, Woolton, Liverpool

THE QUARRYMEN play Pavillion Theatre, Lodge Lane, Liverpool.
During the performance, the group is plied with alcohol and get drunk. Colin Hanton, feeling he has been insulted by the others, leaves The Quarrymen after the gig.

THE RAVIN` TEXANS - Al Caldwell [vocals/guitar]; Johnny Byrne [vocals/guitar]; Paul Murphy [vocals/guitar]; Spud Ward [tea-chest bass]; Reg Hales [washboard] - joined by Ritchie Starkey (later - see below- to be known as Ringo Starr) [drums].

THE RAVIN` TEXANS, with Ritchie Starkey on drums, play at theMardis Gras, Mount Pleasant, Liverpool.

THE RAVING` TEXANS, with Ritchie Starkey on drums, change name - first to AL STORM & THE HURRICANES; then to JETT STORM & THE HURRICANES; and then to RORY STORM & THE HURRICANES.
  As Rory Storm & The Hurricanes, the members of the group take stage names: Al Caldwell becomes Rory Storm [vocals]; Johnny Bryne becomes Johnny Guitar [rhythm guitar]; Wally Eymond becomes Lou Walters [bass guitar]; Charles O`Brien becomes Ty O`Brien [lead guitar]; Ritchie Starkey becomes Ringo Starr [drums].

LES STEWART QUARTET - Les Stewart [bass]; Ken Brown [guitar]; Geoff Skinner [drums] - joined by George Harrison [guitar].

LES STEWART QUARTET, with George on guitar, play Lowlands Club, Hayman`s Green, West Derby, Liverpool.

LES STEWART QUARTET guitarist, Ken Brown, hears rumours that The Casbah coffee club is to open at the end of the month at 8 Hayman`s Green, West Derby, Liverpool -and asks the club owner, Mo Best, about a residency for the Les Stewart Quartet. She agrees to the group playing on the opening night of The Casbah, but, shortly before The Casbah is due to open, Les Stewart and Ken Brown argue and     Ken Brown and George Harrison leave Les Stewart Quartet. Without a group to play at the Casbah opening night, Mo Best asks Ruth Morrison, George Harrison`s girlfiend at the time, if she knows of a group who could play. Ruth tells Mo that George, had played with a group - The Quarrymen, who are booked by Mo Best for the opening night of The Casbah. Ken Brown, having left the Les Stewart Quartet, joins The Quarrymen.

29 AUG

THE QUARRYMEN - John [vocals/guitar]; Paul [vocals/guitar]; George [guitar]: Ken Brown [guitar], but no drummer - play the opening night at The Casbah, 8 Hayman`s Green, West Derby, Liverpool.

THE QUARRYMEN play The Casbah, but Ken Brown is too ill to play. Club owner, Mo Best, says Ken should still be paid, but John, Paul and George disagree. Ken Brown leaves The Quarrymen. The Quarrymen cease playing at The Casbah.

11 OCT

RORY STORM & THE HURRICANES - Rory Storm [vocals]; Johnny Guitar [rhythmn guitar]; Ty O`Brien [lead guitar]; Lou Walters [bass guitar]; Ringo Starr (Ritchie Starkey) [drums] - audition for Carroll Levis` TV Star Search at The Empire Theatre, Liverpool and qualify for the regional finals.

18 OCT

JOHNNY & THE MOONDOGS - John [vocals]; Paul [guitar]; George [guitar] - audition for Carroll Levis` TV Star Search at the Empire Theatre, Liverpool, performing two Buddy Holly songs - Think It Over and Rave On and qualify for the regional finals.

15 NOV

JOHNNY & THE MOONDOGS - John [vocals], Paul [guitar], George [guitar] - play the regional finals of Carroll Levis` TV Star Search at Hippodrome Theatre, Hyde Rd, Ardwick Green, Manchester. John, Paul and George have to leave for the last train back to Liverpool, before audience response is measured by a "clap-o-meter" at the end of the show, so they don`t win.

RORY STORM & THE HURRICANES - Rory Storm [vocals]; Johnny Guitar [rhythmn guitar]; Ty O`Brien [lead guitar]; Lou Walters [bass guitar]; Ringo Starr (Ritchie Starkey) [drums] - play the regional finals of Carroll Levis` TV Star Search at Hippodrome Theatre, Hyde Rd, Ardwick Green, Manchester, and, able to stay to the end of the show for the audience response on the "clap-o-meter", come second.

NOV

THE BLACKJACKS (not to be confused with group of the same name formed by John Lennon in 1957) - Randolph Peter Best (Pete Best, son of Mo Best, owner of The Casbah coffee club) [drums]; Chas Newby [bass guitar]; Billy Barlow [guitar] - joined by Ken Brown [guitar], having left The Quarrymen.
